With Airtel, Jio, and Vi working together to introduce built-in caller ID services, Indian telecom users can expect a safer, smarter, and more transparent calling experience. The collaboration with tech giants and TRAI’s support will ensure a smooth rollout, ultimately reducing spam calls and fraud risks for millions of subscribers.
India’s leading telecom operators—Airtel, Jio, and Vi—are set to introduce a built-in caller ID service that will display the caller’s name on smartphone screens without requiring third-party apps like Truecaller. This initiative, known as Calling Name Presentation (CNAP), is designed to enhance spam call prevention and improve user experience by making caller identification seamless and more secure.
How Built-In Caller ID Will Work
Unlike third-party apps that rely on crowdsourced databases, the Airtel Caller ID, Jio Built-in Caller ID, and Vi’s upcoming caller identification service will pull information directly from telecom records. This means that the displayed names will be more accurate, reducing the risk of fake identities used in spam or fraudulent calls.
The telecom providers have already engaged leading tech vendors and begun ordering specialized equipment to integrate CNAP into their networks. HP, Dell, Ericsson, and Nokia are collaborating with these telecom giants to develop the required servers and software, ensuring smooth implementation.
Trials and Phased Rollout
The built-in caller ID service has already undergone trials in select regions to test its effectiveness and reliability. Once the technology stabilizes, a phased rollout will begin across India, ensuring that users gradually gain access to this advanced feature.
This initiative aligns with the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI)’s push for stronger anti-spam features to counter the increasing menace of spam calls and robocallers. By integrating CNAP directly into telecom networks, Airtel, Jio, and Vi aim to curb fraudulent activities and provide users with a safer communication experience.
The Airtel, Jio, Vi partnership on this project is a significant step in modernizing India’s telecom infrastructure. Given the rise in spam and scam calls, this initiative could revolutionize spam call prevention by providing users with more control and transparency over incoming calls.
While TRAI has been actively working on regulatory measures, telecom operators are now taking proactive steps by integrating advanced caller identification technology within their networks. This move not only strengthens security but also enhances trust in telecom network updates.
As the Jio Built-in Caller ID, Airtel Caller ID, and Vi’s caller identification service gain momentum, they could significantly reduce the dependence on third-party apps while providing a more authentic and reliable solution. With spam call prevention becoming a major concern for mobile users, this step is expected to improve customer satisfaction and set new industry standards for telecom security in India.
