Thousands of Airtel users in Delhi-NCR reported a major network outage on Monday, August 18, with both mobile internet and call services severely impacted. According to outage tracking platform Downdetector, reports began surfacing around 3:30 pm IST, with over 3,600 complaints registered in just a few hours.
What Happened During the Airtel Outage?
Many subscribers complained that they were unable to make calls, send SMS, or access 4G/5G internet services. Social media platforms such as X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram were flooded with the hashtag #AirtelDown, where frustrated users shared screenshots and experiences about the network failure.
This comes despite Airtel’s recent initiatives to improve network reliability and tackle spam calls, including a spam-fighting network and nationwide awareness campaigns. However, the sudden disruption once again raised concerns about telecom infrastructure reliability in India’s capital region.

The outage caused inconvenience for thousands of individuals who depend on Airtel’s 4G and 5G mobile data services for work, online classes, and essential communication. Such service disruptions highlight the growing demand for more stable telecom networks in India’s rapidly digitizing economy.
Current Status of Airtel Services
As per user reports, the outage seems to be gradually resolving, with some customers regaining connectivity late in the evening. However, Airtel has not yet issued an official statement regarding the root cause of the disruption.
