AMD has officially introduced its much-anticipated RDNA 4 graphics cards, the Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT. After months of speculation following a partial reveal at CES 2025, the company has now confirmed the full specs and launch details, with both models set to arrive on March 6. Pricing is positioned competitively, with the RX 9070 at $549 and the RX 9070 XT at $599.
Rather than a complete overhaul, RDNA 4 builds upon the foundation of RDNA 3, delivering notable improvements in performance and efficiency. Built on TSMC's 4nm process, these GPUs feature a 357 mm² die, the same size as the RX 7800 XT but packing nearly double the transistors at 53.9 billion. Despite this leap, the architecture remains familiar, with refinements focused on optimizing Compute Units (CUs).
Key upgrades include second-generation AI accelerators supporting FP8 operations and enhanced matrix performance, improved memory subsystems, faster scalar units, and dynamic register allocation. Together, these changes provide higher clock speeds and greater efficiency per CU, helping to boost overall performance.
RDNA 4 also introduces shader instruction reordering to keep workloads flowing smoothly, while the new AI accelerators are set to power future features like AMD's FSR 4 upscaling technology.
With these enhancements, AMD aims to strengthen its position in the mid-range GPU market, offering an appealing balance of power and price for gamers and creators alike.
