The expansion gives users greater flexibility to manage AI-driven tasks across devices, while Anthropic also plans wider access to Claude Fable 5 and is temporarily increasing Cowork usage limits for eligible users.
Anthropic is expanding Claude Cowork beyond its desktop environment, bringing the AI-powered work agent to mobile devices and the web. The move is aimed at allowing users to delegate tasks from their computers and continue monitoring or managing them even after leaving their desks.
Claude Cowork was introduced in January 2026 as a desktop-focused tool designed to handle a range of general work activities. With the latest expansion, users will be able to initiate a task on a computer, close their laptop and allow Claude to continue working in the background. They can then check the status of the task and access its completed output through another device.
The company described the feature as a way to make AI-assisted work less dependent on a single device. Anthropic said, “Hand Claude a task at your desk and pick up the finished work from your phone. Close the laptop, and Claude keeps going.”
AI tasks can continue beyond the desktop
The expanded Cowork experience is designed for workflows that may require extended processing or multiple steps. For example, a user could ask Claude to review email exchanges, analyse meeting transcripts, examine recent developments and compile the information into a briefing document.
The ability to continue working after a laptop is closed could make Cowork more useful for tasks that do not require constant supervision. Users can start an assignment and return later to review the results instead of keeping their computer open throughout the process.
However, Anthropic is retaining user oversight for actions that require confirmation. When Claude needs approval or additional direction, users can respond from their phones. This allows them to provide instructions or approve specific actions without returning to their computers.
The feature effectively creates a workflow in which users can begin an assignment on one device, supervise it remotely and retrieve the finished work from another.
Rollout begins across mobile and web
Claude Cowork is being extended to iPhone, iPad and Android devices through the Claude application. Users will be able to access the feature from a dedicated sidebar. The company is also making Cowork available through claude.ai, enabling access through a web browser.
The mobile and web expansion is initially aimed at subscribers to Anthropic’s Max plan, which is positioned as the company’s highest-tier paid offering. Anthropic is also doubling Cowork usage limits as part of the rollout promotion.
Alongside the Cowork expansion, Anthropic has announced plans to make Claude Fable 5 available across all paid plans in the coming days. The move broadens access to another part of the company’s AI portfolio as it continues to expand Claude’s capabilities across different user segments.
With Cowork now moving across desktop, mobile and web platforms, Anthropic is positioning the AI agent as a more persistent work assistant rather than a tool limited to an active desktop session. The expansion also reflects the growing push among AI companies to make agents capable of carrying out longer, multi-step tasks with users remaining in control.
