The milestone highlights sustained investor confidence in the iPhone maker as markets increasingly reward companies demonstrating long-term AI ambitions, resilient services growth and strong ecosystem-driven revenues ahead of closely watched quarterly financial results.
Apple became only the second publicly listed company in the world to briefly surpass a market capitalization of USD 5 trillion after its shares rallied during Tuesday’s trading session. The milestone came a day after the technology giant reclaimed the title of the world's most valuable listed company from Nvidia, highlighting the intense competition between the two industry leaders.
The company's stock climbed to an intraday high of USD 342.89, lifting its market value to about USD 5.036 trillion. However, some of the gains were erased later in the session, with the stock closing at USD 340.08 per share. As a result, Apple finished the day with a market capitalization of approximately USD 4.99 trillion, narrowly below the historic USD 5 trillion mark.
The brief breakthrough nevertheless reflected sustained investor confidence in Apple's long-term growth prospects. The company has enjoyed strong buying momentum throughout the year, with its shares gaining nearly 25 percent amid optimism surrounding its expanding services portfolio, integrated hardware ecosystem and growing focus on artificial intelligence capabilities.
Apple and Nvidia continue battle for market supremacy
The latest valuation milestone comes as Apple and Nvidia remain locked in a close contest for the position of the world's most valuable publicly traded company. Both firms have witnessed sharp increases in market value over the past year, fuelled by strong demand for AI-driven technologies and continued investor interest in large-cap technology stocks.
Apple recently overtook Nvidia after the chipmaker had occupied the top position since June 2025. Nvidia's rapid ascent was largely powered by soaring global demand for its advanced graphics processors, which have become central to AI model development and expanding data centre infrastructure.
While Apple has strengthened its position through a combination of hardware innovation, services growth and AI investments, Nvidia continues to benefit from robust enterprise spending on AI computing platforms.
Investors await next phase of AI-driven growth
Attention is now turning to Apple's third-quarter fiscal results, scheduled to be announced on Thursday, with investors looking for further indications of revenue growth, AI-related initiatives and future product strategy.
Nvidia remains the only other company to have crossed the USD 5 trillion valuation threshold, becoming the first business to achieve the feat in October. During Tuesday's trading, Nvidia shares rose modestly to USD 197.63, giving the semiconductor company a market capitalization of roughly USD 4.77 trillion.
Although Apple currently holds the valuation lead, analysts expect the rivalry between the two technology giants to remain closely contested as artificial intelligence, cloud infrastructure and next-generation computing continue to shape global investor sentiment and drive the performance of the world's largest technology companies.
