Apple announced that its generative AI offering, Apple Intelligence, will expand to include more languages in 2025, adding support for English (India), English (Singapore), German, Italian, Korean, Portuguese, Vietnamese, and more.
The feature will initially launch in American English as part of the iOS 18.1 update. Previously, localized English support for countries like Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the U.K. is set for late 2024, while Chinese, French, Japanese, and Spanish will be available in 2025.
By 2025, Apple Intelligence, its AI feature set, will support German, Korean, and Italian, extending its worldwide reach. Apple claimed that "this move makes AI more accessible." By December, the feature will also enable localised English for the UK, Canada, and Australia. Language support for India and Singapore will follow.
However, Apple Intelligence won't be available on iPhones or iPads in the EU at launch due to regulatory issues with the Digital Markets Act. Apple is in discussions with the European Commission regarding this matter. The feature is currently accessible in the EU through the macOS Sequoia 15.1 developer beta.
Apple is facing significant challenges in China regarding local regulations surrounding generative AI models. The company is actively engaged in discussions to navigate these regulatory hurdles for Apple Intelligence in this crucial market. As Apple continues to expand its generative AI capabilities, these regulatory complexities could impact its rollout and functionality in China.
