Cisco has inaugurated its first manufacturing facility in India, located in Chennai, in partnership with Flex. The facility is part of a multiyear investment expected to generate over USD $1.3 billion annually from exports and domestic production.
The partnership between Cisco and Flex to establish a manufacturing facility in Chennai represents a significant step in expanding domestic production and exports for Cisco’s products.
Initially, the facility will focus on manufacturing the Cisco Network Convergence System (NCS) 540 Series of routers, which are essential for meeting the growing demand for high-performance networking solutions in India and globally by creating 1,200 jobs.
India has been an important market for Cisco for nearly three decades, and we are immensely proud of our progress and partnerships here,” said Chuck Robbins, Chair and CEO of Cisco. “The inauguration of a manufacturing facility in Chennai marks a significant advancement in our commitment to the region. This expansion not only deepens our presence in India, but also strengthens our partnerships with customers, partners, and the government.
This investment strengthens Cisco’s supply chain and supports India’s ambitions to become a global technology and manufacturing hub. This demonstrates Cisco's long-term commitment to India's manufacturing ecosystem and its role in the global supply chain.
We are proud to officially open a new manufacturing facility in Chennai, which is a pivotal step in our investments in India,” said Daisy Chittilapilly, President, Cisco India & SAARC. “This new facility strengthens our capabilities in the country to produce state-of-the-art technologies, contributing to our nation’s technological advancement and global competitiveness.
With this localizing the production of the NCS 540 routers, Cisco aims to meet the rising network infrastructure needs across industries while also contributing to the development of India's manufacturing capabilities. This move aligns with the government's Make in India initiative, which encourages global companies to produce locally.
