The move formalises CMF’s India operations, giving the brand greater autonomy to scale manufacturing, product development, and global expansion from the country.
Nothing’s affordable technology brand CMF has formally registered as an independent legal entity in India, a move that signals its transition from a sub-brand to a standalone player in the country’s fast-growing consumer electronics market.
Now incorporated as CMF India Private Limited, the company was officially registered on December 23, 2025. The development was confirmed by Nothing co-founder Akis Evangelidis through a post on X (formerly Twitter), where he underscored India’s growing importance in the global consumer technology landscape.
Strategic shift toward India-centric growth
Evangelidis noted that CMF’s independent incorporation aligns with Nothing’s broader vision of positioning India as a global hub for consumer tech innovation. He described CMF as a key part of that journey, adding that the brand is now legally established to operate and scale independently within the country.
The move follows a reported investment of over $100 million in India, including a manufacturing partnership with Optiemus. With local operations now formalised, CMF is expected to sharpen its focus on product development, supply chain efficiency, and faster go-to-market strategies, while reducing operational dependence on its parent brand.
Industry observers see the decision as a step toward building a globally relevant consumer technology company with India as its operational base, at a time when global brands are increasingly diversifying manufacturing and innovation beyond China.
Expanding portfolio in the budget tech segment
CMF has quickly gained visibility in India’s competitive budget segment with products that combine distinctive design and aggressive pricing. Its smartphones, including the CMF Phone 2 Pro, have helped establish the brand among value-conscious consumers.
Beyond smartphones, the company has expanded into audio and wearable categories with earbuds and smartwatches. CMF is also expected to enter the affordable headphones segment, further broadening its product ecosystem.
As CMF steps out as an independent entity, its performance will be closely watched as a test case for India-led consumer tech brands aiming for global relevance.
