Expired certificate breaks Logitech Options+, G HUB apps on macOS

Logitech’s Options+ and G HUB applications for macOS stopped functioning after their code-signing certificate expired, leaving users unable to launch the apps and access their custom device settings.

Options+ is designed for configuring Logitech input devices, while G HUB allows customization of Logitech G gaming peripherals, including button remapping, lighting settings, scroll wheel behavior, and sensor sensitivity. The outage prevented users from accessing these features, forcing them to rely on basic input functionality.

User Frustration and Workarounds

Mac users reported widespread disruption, expressing frustration over lost productivity as custom gestures and mappings became unavailable. Many attempted temporary fixes, such as reinstalling the apps, using Safe Mode, or resetting configuration files, with limited success.

Some users also suggested workarounds online, including setting the system date to prior to the certificate expiration, installing older versions of the apps, or blocking internet access to bypass certificate validation. Logitech has not verified these methods and warns that they may be unreliable or carry risks.

Logitech Issues Patch to Restore Functionality

Logitech acknowledged the issue on its support portal, confirming that the expired certificate affected both the apps and their in-app updaters. On Tuesday, the company released updated “patch” installers for both Options+ and G HUB, advising users not to uninstall the existing apps before applying the patch to avoid losing saved settings.

The company provided step-by-step instructions for updating the apps:

Options+: Download the patch, double-click to install, and the app will automatically launch with all devices and customizations restored.

G HUB: Download the patch, double-click to install, and exit when prompted that the software already exists.

Until the updates are installed, Logitech urges users not to delete configuration files or uninstall the apps, as doing so would result in the permanent loss of custom settings.

The incident highlights the importance of certificate management for macOS applications, which rely on valid certificates to launch and verify updates.
