The headset combines coaxial 50mm and 16mm drivers with low-latency processing, six dedicated audio profiles, a 10-band EQ, detachable ENC microphone and broad device compatibility for immersive gaming and entertainment.
FiiO, known for its range of headphones, in-ear monitors, portable amplifiers and digital audio players, has entered the gaming headset segment with the launch of the FG3 in India. Priced at Rs. 6,999, the headset is available exclusively through Headphone Zone.
The company has taken an audio-first approach to gaming, focusing on hardware rather than relying primarily on software processing. The FG3 features two dynamic drivers—a 50mm unit for low and mid frequencies and a 16mm driver for high frequencies—positioned coaxially to create a more consistent sound source.
An electronic two-way crossover divides the audio spectrum between the drivers. This configuration is designed to preserve directional information, helping gamers identify the location of footsteps, reload sounds and other in-game audio cues more accurately.
Dual-driver architecture targets positional audio
The FG3 combines its driver setup with a dual-core DSP and a DAC capable of decoding audio at up to 192kHz/24-bit. A dedicated headphone amplifier provides up to 80mW of output power, with the overall audio architecture designed to maintain responsiveness while running EQ and surround-processing functions.
For gaming, the company has placed particular emphasis on latency, aiming to ensure that processed audio reaches the user without introducing noticeable delays. The headset also offers six audio modes covering different types of content and gaming scenarios.
These include FPS, ACT, MOBA, MUG, Cinema and Music modes. The FPS setting prioritises positional details such as footsteps, while ACT adds greater impact to action-heavy games. MOBA focuses on ability cues and voice clarity, while MUG is tuned for rhythm-based titles. Cinema expands the soundstage for movies, and Music provides a more balanced listening profile.
The headset's virtual 7.1 surround algorithm is available in Cinema and ACT modes. FiiO has opted not to apply the processing to FPS and MOBA modes, where additional spatial effects could potentially interfere with competitive positional cues.
Browser-based controls and custom EQ
The FG3 uses FIIO Control WEB for configuration, allowing users to manage settings through a browser without installing dedicated drivers or client software. This approach also enables the headset to be configured on shared computers.
A 10-band custom equaliser is available through the platform, while sound profiles can be saved locally on the headset for quick access. Audio modes can also be changed using the inline controller, which features a colour-coded indicator for the active profile.
For voice communication, the detachable microphone incorporates an ENC algorithm designed to reduce ambient sounds such as keyboard and mouse noise. Hardware-based sidetone provides real-time microphone monitoring, while a dedicated mute button with a red indicator is included on the inline control.
Foldable design supports multiple platforms
The FG3 features a fold-flat frame with a stainless-steel headband and replaceable woven-mesh earpads built over a memory-foam base. The closed-back construction is designed to provide isolation from surrounding noise, while the breathable ear cushions are intended for extended gaming sessions.
Connectivity is handled through a braided USB Type-C cable, with a USB-A adapter included in the box. The headset supports adaptive UAC 1.0 and UAC 2.0 operation, allowing compatibility across Windows 7, 8, 10 and 11 systems, smartphones, laptops, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
With the FG3, FiiO is positioning its first gaming headset as a product that brings its established audio-engineering approach into gaming, particularly around driver configuration, positional accuracy and user-controlled sound profiles.
