Google is expanding the functionality of the web version of the Photos app with the new backup feature. The feature will work the same way it does on the mobile apps on Android, iPhones and iPads and allows users to take backup of the photos and videos stored on their PC or Mac. Google Photos on the web will now let users choose a folder and will backup the photos and videos stored in it automatically.
However, Google Photos backup feature on the web isn’t exactly new. While the feature had been there, earlier users were supposed to manually choose the photos and upload them via their computer using photos.google.com.
The only change here is that Google Photos can now do that automatically given the user has selected the folder beforehand.
The user has to just access Google Photos via web browser by visiting “photos.google.com”, then, look for the new “Back up folders” option from the Upload menu and finally choose the folder and provide the necessary permissions.
Google Photos will then automatically upload the photos and videos stored in that folder when the user visits Google Photos web. Google is also offering users the option to add another folder and even remove the existing one using the three dots next to the backup folder name.
