With the DPIIT (Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade) having recognised over 91,000 businesses, Gujarat has become a centre for the startup community. The state has won praise for its execution of the Startup India programme and built a robust mentorship programme. Institutional financial backing as well as technical advice has fostered a supportive atmosphere for startups. Gujarat keeps encouraging entrepreneurship and innovation.
As per the state government statement, Gujarat held the top position for the years 2018, 2019 and 2021. It is due to a strong system of mentorship of startups put in place by the government. Besides, the state also received the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration for implementation of the Startup India scheme.
In order to promote startups in the state, over 300 mentors have registered on the state government portal. An amount of Rs 43 crore has been disbursed so far by the government so far to 390 startups, which have filed over 125 patents.
The statement said that to provide a conducive mentoring atmosphere for startups, institutions like the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development Network, the Entrepreneurship Development Institute, Gujarat Venture Finance Limited, iCreate, iACE and iHub have been providing technical and financial support.
