As enterprises and critical infrastructure become increasingly connected, visitor identity is emerging as an important security vulnerability. Hospitals, data centers, corporate offices and logistics facilities may process hundreds of visitors, contractors and vendors daily, yet conventional check-in systems often provide limited assurance that the person receiving an access badge is actually who they claim to be.
HID, Soloinsight and Connected Technology Solutions (CTS) are addressing this gap through an integrated self-service visitor check-in kiosk. The solution combines HID’s ATOM document authentication and U.ARE.U facial recognition technologies with Soloinsight’s CloudGate visitor management and Physical Identity and Access Management (PIAM) platform.
The process begins with visitor pre-registration through CloudGate. At arrival, the visitor scans a QR code and presents a passport, driver’s license or supported mobile ID. HID ATOM authenticates the credential, while the U.ARE.U Face Module performs live facial verification before CloudGate completes check-in, records the transaction, issues the visitor pass and alerts the host.
The combination provides stronger identity assurance than basic tablet-based registration. HID ATOM can process document data, barcodes and RFID/NFC chips while checking document-integrity features. CloudGate then creates a centralized, auditable record of visitor activity for security, investigations and compliance.
Another opportunity lies in integration with existing enterprise infrastructure. CloudGate supports approximately 30 physical access-control connectors and more than 150 integrations spanning IT, HR, IAM and SIEM environments, allowing organizations to strengthen visitor security without necessarily replacing their existing access-control investments.
Identity Becomes Part of Physical Security
The larger opportunity extends beyond faster visitor check-in. As organizations adopt Zero Trust principles, identity verification is moving from digital logins to physical environments. Data centers, BFSI facilities, government buildings, healthcare institutions, manufacturing plants and other sensitive locations increasingly need to answer three questions: Who is entering? Is the identity genuine? What access should that person receive?
This creates a growing market for combining document authentication + biometrics + liveness + access control + visitor intelligence + auditable compliance into a unified workflow.
The strategic shift is clear: visitor management is evolving from “register and issue a badge” to “verify identity before granting access.” For enterprises and critical infrastructure, that turns the reception kiosk into an important component of the broader identity-security architecture.
