Social Media platforms like WhatsApp, TikTok, and Twitter came under the Hyderabad Police scanner for their anti national activities like spreading rumours between two religions and instigating people against each other.
A complaint in this regard was filed by Silveri Srishailam at the cybercrime police station in Hyderabad. In his complaint, Srishailam claimed that the activities of these social media platforms are highly objectionable as per the law of the land. Further a case was registered against WhatsApp, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok and other social media platforms.
Notices have been issued to the concerned parties and further investigation is underway. In his submission, the complainant alleged that some anti-social elements launched social media campaigns under the guise of freedom of expression after the enactment of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) by the Parliament on December 12 of last year. The complainant alleged that the said elements used these anti-social elements are collaborating with social media operators resulting in the circulation of unverified videos and messages to link the act with the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
This content, claimed Srishailam, is damaging national integration and communal harmony. The complainant further submitted, to propagate their objects and hidden agenda, the accused are using the various social media applications to circulate messages and videos in many languages, including English, Urdu, Arabic, Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi among others. This is being done by the creation of individualized groups and web pages.
