Instagram, as part of a new experiment, is reportedly displaying users’ AI-generated images of themselves. Users came across an AI-generated version of themselves where they were shown a slideshow of AI-generated images where they are standing in front of “an endless maze of mirrors.” The post is only visible to the user and comes with an accompanying caption that says “Imagine yourself reflecting on life in an endless maze of mirrors where you’re the main focus.”
The Mark Zuckerberg-owned firm confirmed that it was indeed a feature that was teased in September last year.
Meta, notably, was working on a new feature for its AI chatbot that allows users to add, remove or change things in an image like their outfit or background and even generate a new background for the story. However, Meta’s announcement did not mention that it would randomly show users an AI-generated version of themselves in the feed.
It was only a few days ago that a report claimed that Meta was planning to bring AI bots to Facebook and Instagram to retain its user base and attract a younger audience, including a new feature that helps users create AI characters on these social media platforms. The company also deleted several AI accounts after getting backlash from human users.
