Jio Platforms is teaming up with global tech giants like Nvidia to co-develop affordable and personalized AI solutions. This move is in line with RIL’s broader strategy to replicate the success it achieved in the telecom industry by drastically reducing mobile data prices, now among the lowest in the world, by making artificial intelligence (AI) just as accessible.
According to reports, Jio Platforms is focusing on developing AI language models and personalized AI agents tailored to sectors such as retail, healthcare, agriculture, and education. The company is also taking steps to bolster the necessary infrastructure by participating in the India AI Mission, an initiative aimed at boosting AI innovation in the country. As part of this, RIL is collaborating with Nvidia to acquire high-performance Blackwell GPUs to enhance its AI capabilities.
A senior company executive outlined Jio’s plan to provide GPU-as-a-service to startups and researchers at highly competitive prices. This initiative, alongside advancements in AI models, is designed to provide affordable AI-as-a-service to individuals and businesses alike. “Just as Jio revolutionized data access, we want to democratize AI,” the executive said, emphasizing the importance of accessible technology for everyone.
The India AI Mission, a Rs 10,300-crore project aimed at fostering AI innovation, will play a key role in this endeavour. Jio, along with other bidders, is competing for a place in the mission, which includes subsidized access to GPU hardware. Jio’s commitment to AI also includes the development of Jio Brain, an enterprise AI suite designed to integrate AI into corporate functions across RIL's diverse business units.
Jio’s AI strategy also emphasizes sustainability, with plans to incorporate green energy into AI infrastructure to reduce operational costs. As AI technology becomes more affordable, Jio aims to offer cost-effective solutions not only within India but also to global markets, making AI scalable and accessible for businesses and individuals.
