The film, directed by Karan Malhotra, aims to bring to life the poignant story of one of Indian cinema’s most celebrated yet tragic figures, known for her grace, emotional depth, and powerful performances in classics like Pakeezah and Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam.
Sources close to the production reveal that the film will explore Meena Kumari’s complex personal and professional journey, her struggles with fame, love, and loneliness, and her enduring impact on Indian cinema. Kiara, known for her versatility in films like Satyaprem Ki Katha and Shershaah, has reportedly begun intensive preparation to capture Meena Kumari’s iconic expressions, voice modulation, and screen presence.
The biopic will also focus on Meena Kumari’s relationship with filmmaker Kamal Amrohi, exploring the artistic partnership that produced some of Indian cinema’s most iconic works.
