As Meta ramps up its artificial intelligence (AI) ambitions, CEO Mark Zuckerberg has shed light on what truly attracts the world’s top AI researchers to the company — and it's not just the rumored multimillion-dollar salaries.
In a recent interview with The Information’s TITV, Zuckerberg emphasized that while competitive AI researcher salaries play a role in Meta's talent acquisition strategy, the real draw is cutting-edge infrastructure, access to GPUs (Graphics Processing Units), and freedom to innovate.
“People aren’t just asking about compensation anymore. They want the fewest number of direct reports and the most access to GPUs,” Zuckerberg explained.
Meta’s AI hiring drive is among the most aggressive Silicon Valley has seen, with reports suggesting offers between Rs 800 crore to Rs 1,600 crore ($100M–$200M) to top talent. However, Zuckerberg clarified that those figures are exaggerated, and the real differentiator is Meta’s AI research environment.

Meta is heavily investing in AI superclusters and tent-based data centers to accelerate its AI development roadmap. This infrastructure fuels projects across the company’s AI ecosystem — from chatbots and digital assistants to foundational model training and multimodal systems.
