The Redmond giant has notched yet another acquisition. According to the latest update, Microsoft Corp has bought a new start-up id8 Group R2 Studios Inc. The latest acquisition will help Microsoft to expand further in technology focussed on the home and entertainment.
Started in 2011, id8 Group R2 Studios is founded by Silicon Valley entrepreneur and investor Blake Krikorian. Recently, Krikorian launched a Google Android application which is likely to facilitate users to control home heating and lighting systems from smartphones.
It is worth noticing here that Krikorian is an ex-amazon.com. Inc. employee. He resigned from Amazon.com Inc.'s board in late December after serving the organization for about a year and a half as a Director.
Post acquisition, Krikorian will join Microsoft with a small team.Besides id8 Group R2 Studios Inc.’s acquisition, Microsoft has also purchased some patents owned by the start-up related to controlling electronic devices earlier this week.
However, it is difficult to say anything how Microsoft will take the latest acquisition forward as spokespersons from both the firms have declined to comment on the matter. Even, the financial details have not been disclosed by any of the firms.
