The Open Data Center Alliance (ODCA) has unveiled its third annual membership survey. The survey highlights continued growth in the adoption of cloud computing by the Alliance members, ahead of broad market trends including broad use of ODCA usage model requirements to guide cloud purchases.
The 2013 annual ODCA membership survey, which collected information from 124 members, found that 31 per cent of respondents are running at least 40 per cent of their IT operations in an internal cloud. This number is expected to grow to 70 per cent of respondents by 2016.
The survey also showed that 74 per cent of respondents are already using or plan to use ODCA’s usage model requirements in requests for proposals (RFPs) in the next six months – up from 63 per cent in 2012. ODCA usage models describe specific customer requirements that should be met in order to make cloud computing simpler, more secure and more efficient.
The release of the ODCA member survey comes as ODCA’s board of directors kick off their members-only ODCA 2014 Solutions Summit with the leading solutions provider members in Monterey, Calif. Focussed on identifying business opportunities aligned with ODCA requirements, the annual Solutions Summit is a critical element of the organization’s annual agenda, with the proof-of-concept test results expected from solutions aligned to ODCA requirements. These proof-of-concept results will be highlighted more broadly at Forecast 2014, ODCA’s flagship conference scheduled for September 22–24, 2014 in San Francisco.
