The planned transformation could integrate AI agents, coding tools and third-party services into ChatGPT, reflecting OpenAI’s broader strategy to expand enterprise adoption and position the platform as a central hub for digital tasks.
OpenAI is reportedly preparing a significant revamp of ChatGPT as the artificial intelligence company looks beyond traditional chatbot interactions and toward a more comprehensive AI-driven ecosystem. According to reports, the initiative forms part of a broader restructuring effort aimed at strengthening the company’s position in an increasingly competitive AI market.
The proposed changes would transform ChatGPT into a multifunctional platform that combines AI assistants, software development tools and external services within a single user experience. The move is expected to support OpenAI’s efforts to attract enterprise customers while differentiating its offerings from rival AI providers.
The reported strategy also reflects the company’s growing belief that AI agents capable of performing tasks on behalf of users will play a larger role in the next phase of artificial intelligence adoption.
Shift towards AI agents and productivity tools
Under the planned overhaul, OpenAI is expected to place greater emphasis on its AI coding assistant, Codex, alongside other productivity-focused capabilities. Company executives reportedly view ChatGPT’s massive user base as an entry point for introducing more advanced tools and services.
The updated platform is expected to encourage users to explore activities such as software development, image creation and interactions with third-party applications. The rollout could begin in the coming weeks across ChatGPT’s web and mobile platforms.
Speaking about the company’s long-term vision, Thibault Sottiaux, who leads OpenAI’s core product and platform teams, said, “It will transcend the actual surface . . . what we’re building towards is where you have your own personal agent that is capable of helping you . . . across everything in your life, be it personally or at work.”
“You can connect through it on your mobile, desktop or web. When you’re in the car, you can talk to it,” he added.
Interface redesign and enterprise focus
As part of the reported changes, OpenAI is also redesigning ChatGPT’s interface to make it easier for users to discover new capabilities and partner services. The company is expected to introduce prompts and navigation features that guide users toward tools such as coding assistants, image-generation services and third-party applications.
Over time, OpenAI reportedly aims to reduce reliance on explicit prompts, instead allowing its AI models to anticipate user intent and recommend relevant actions automatically.
The company’s leadership believes users will increasingly prefer interacting with a single intelligent assistant rather than switching between multiple standalone applications.
Commenting on the future of AI-powered experiences, Alex Embiricos, OpenAI’s head of enterprise product, said, “When we have [artificial general intelligence], I don’t think there will be a large number of distinct brands.”
“Probably there will be a single entity that I can talk to that can do whatever I need,” he added.
The company is also reportedly seeing strong momentum for Codex, whose user base has expanded significantly in recent months. With enterprise adoption growing rapidly, OpenAI appears to be positioning coding and agent-based AI services as central pillars of its next phase of growth.
