With new software-defined storage, Pure Storage is bringing the cloud operating model anywhere. The company is managing the enterprise storage with the simple on-demand provisioning, effortless scale, and self-management of the cloud. In a chat with VARINDIA, Ramanujam Komanduri, Country Manager, Pure Storage India points out the current need of hybrid models, their go-to-market strategy, the adoption of the best practices by the enterprises etc.
The demand for the Hybrid model
In Ramanujam’s words, Pure Storage delivers the most modern and complete hybrid-cloud data platform for cloud-native and traditional applications. He explains, “It is true that hybrid cloud is here to stay but so is the shift to containers and cloud-native technologies. These are enabling organizations in their digital transformation as well as improving customer experience. However, IT leaders face difficult choices when implementing hybrid-cloud strategies due to differences in capabilities and tools offered in on-premises and public-cloud environments.”
Pure envisions a new reality for enterprises. It is a reality where IT leaders are no longer forced to decide where an application resides based on the deficiencies of certain environments. Instead, users make the best design decisions based on their specific business requirements.
Ramanujam continues, “We’re bringing this reality to life through the evolution of our portfolio. For example, we have:
• Brought cloud-like agility on-prem with automated storage delivery for cloud-native applications and as-a-service consumption in the data center
• Up-leveled public-cloud storage with Pure Cloud Block Store for AWS and Azure
• Portworx, which delivers an industry-leading Kubernetes data-services platform to enterprise environments at scale and across a multi-cloud environment too.
With these capabilities, Pure now provides the most modern and complete hybrid-cloud data platform for cloud-native and traditional applications.”
The best practices by the enterprises
Discussing the adoption of technologies by the enterprises, Ramanujam comments, “The adoption of cloud has caused organizations to look for technologies which are simple, scaleable, always-on and more importantly without any limitations of being on-premise or off-premise etc. It is the business outcome which drives where the application should reside and hence the technology underlying. This flexibility calls for the use of a best-of-breed approach to combine compute, storage, networking hardware, and visualization software into a single, integrated architecture.”
“Organizations that are considering large-scale performance oriented workloads require converged infrastructure (CI) solutions that are typically more performance-centric. Looking to power Tier 1 workloads, they need performance, availability, and the ability to deploy applications at scale. CI buyers also tend to want flexibility to either support an all-Ethernet infrastructure or an existing Fibre Channel infrastructure. Put simply, they want IT convergence without compromise,” he continues.
The solution from Pure Storage
Pure Storage provides solutions with consistent performance, eliminates bottlenecks, and increases productivity as consumers’ enterprise data multiplies. Ramanujam says, “For unstructured data, Pure FlashBlade is a highly-performant all-flash storage solution for consolidating fast file and object data. FlashBlade’s scale-out metadata architecture can handle tens of billions of files and objects with maximum performance and rich data services.”
Commenting about the company’s recent announcement, he says, “Pure also recently announced its highest capacity FlashArray, the FlashArray//XL, designed for mission-critical, platinum tier enterprise applications - from massive databases to containerized and cloud-native apps. FlashArray//XL delivers unmatched performance and scale delivering up to 5.78 PB effective capacity, as low as 150µs latency, and up to 36GB/s throughput, with industry-leading 5:1 data reduction average, 10:1 total efficiency, and proven 99.9999% availability in a 5U platform.”
Pure Storage’s GTM strategy
Elaborating on the company’s go-to-market strategy, Ramanujam says, “Pure’s GTM strategy is pretty simple. We are 100 percent partner-centric which means the entire portfolio of Pure’s innovations is available to the customers through our partners. Most partners bring in vast amounts of skills related to systems integration, virtualization, cloud transformation etc and they compliment Pure’s innovation and technology and provide a single solution to our customers. Pure’s channel policy promotes value-added solutioning as well as improved customer experience.”
To Conclude
Lastly, pointing out the challenges Ramanujam says, “If the last two years of the global pandemic has taught us anything, it is the importance of business continuity and resiliency and this includes having a strategy to bring your systems and data back online quickly in the event of a natural disaster or a cyber attack. This is a matter of survival for any company. To help companies, Pure has an extremely innovative technology called SafeMode technology that protects backup data and metadata by creating a secure copy. Ransomware can’t eradicate, modify, or encrypt SafeMode snapshots, even with admin credentials. With just a few clicks, you can restore business-critical data quickly and at scale.”
