Nearly 90% of application-security vulnerabilities fall into just seven categories, highlighting a troubling reality: many cyber risks are not caused by highly sophisticated attacks, but by preventable security mistakes.
The concentration of vulnerabilities suggests that organizations continue to struggle with fundamentals such as secure configuration, access controls, software patching, authentication, dependency management, and protection of sensitive data.
Misconfigurations are particularly dangerous because modern applications increasingly operate across cloud platforms, APIs, containers, third-party services, and interconnected enterprise environments. A single overlooked setting can create an entry point for attackers.
