As the Indian IT market matures in the coming times, it can be said with certainty that rather than being a seller’s market, it will gravitate towards being a buyer’s market. This bodes well for customers who will be benefited by the inherent agility, scalability and cost savings.
Cloud computing is a case in point. Cloud computing is being touted by a majority of IT decision-makers in India as a means to minimize IT costs. However, in the process, they tend to soft-pedal the linking of IT and business priorities.
As business dynamics continue to change, vendors will do well to take business managers into confidence by positioning their solutions to them. It will be in the fitness of things that they should align their solutions with business initiatives. Vendors should go for cloud services that are compatible.
It is high time that manufacturing should be given due importance when we talk of IT and telecom hardware products. Security should be uppermost in the minds of stakeholders. As the increasing number of security threats looms large, there is a need for a well-defined policy on cybersecurity. Despite the presence of thousands of security solutions, security breaches are becoming a common feature. In addition to this, what makes the situation all the more alarming is that the level of sophistication of these attacks is increasing day by day. Subsequently, it becomes all the more difficult to identify cybercriminals and contain threats quickly. So, security is an area which will grow at a rapid pace.
Notwithstanding uncertain economic conditions, global IT spending is expected to increase by 4.1 per cent this year. Thanks to strong demand for smartphones and tablets, devices remain the fastest-growing segment in the IT industry. In 2013, total spending on PCs, tablets, mobile phones and printers is expected to reach $718 billion, showing an increase of 9 per cent from 2012.The slump in the sale of PCs will be compensated by the surge in the demand for smartphones and tablets. The PC market will continue to shrink, as more and more people are thinking of using tablets as their main computing devices. However, PC will always remain a prized possession for many. A tablet cannot wholly replace a PC.
At last, the mantra of success in business is: You have to get out and work and spend time with your end-customers – only when you do that, you will understand what is important to them.
