Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has partnered with Thanjavur based SASTRA university to establish a Teacher's Training Centre at the University to familiarize the school teachers with emerging digital-based teaching methods.
The state-of-the art training center will include a language lab, digital assessment solutions, lecture capture solutions, studio to develop learning material, facilities to develop simple applications for a teaching-learning ecosystem and other support facilities for the training programme.
More than 2,000 school teachers from various educational institutes across tier 2 and tier 3 cities in Tamil Nadu will be trained at the institute. This will not only help in providing an orientation to conventional and contemporary pedagogy, but will also offer insights on various class room management tools, development of communication skills and development of applications that will add value to existing pedagogical transactions.
Ajoyendra Mukherjee, executive vice president and head of global human resources, TCS said, "Technology is rapidly transforming the education sector with digital technologies increasingly becoming an integral part of the students’ daily lifestyle. By announcing this initiative for teachers in Tamil Nadu on the special occasion of Teacher’s Day, TCS believes that empowering the teachers through this program on Digital learning pedagogies will help enhance the quality of education provided across Tamil Nadu."
"This programme will be a game changing initiative in the critical sector of school education that requires teachers to embrace the changing paradigms of teaching using a fine mix of modern and established teaching styles. The quality of teachers play an important role in the school student outcome and initiatives like these are required to polish the teaching skill contours to prepare teachers for a class room that has tech-savvy & students belonging to the next generation," said Dr S Vaidhyasubramanim, dean - Planning & Development, SASTRA.
Each 6-day training program will be organized in batches of 45 at the institute. The first batch of training will commence in the month of October. The teacher’s training programme will be offered predominantly to select school teachers across different levels viz. primary, secondary, higher secondary and also professional college teachers in separate batches.
