As a Technology Evangelist at Fortinet, S Valan has to comprehend customer needs and push for strategic customers to become early adopters of the company’s products. This early adoption provides important feedback to the product development teams on product usage and the challenges faced by the customers, and help him to fine tune the products and features.
In this role, Valan has been successful in convincing customers to deploy Web Application Firewalls (FortiWeb in IIMB) and DDoS protection solutions (FortiDDoS in VFS) to protect Web Services integrity and availability. In both instances, he was able to allay customers’ worries about introducing additional complexity into their existing infrastructure. Valan is of the view that a technology evangelist must be self-starter, independent thinker, quick decision-maker, delegate tasks and responsibilities and adept in training and empowering individuals.
