Turkish Wedding Swaps Gold for GPUs
A Turkish wedding has gone viral after the bride and groom were gifted high-end PC components instead of traditional gold jewelry—highlighting the growing cultural cachet of cutting-edge tech amid global hardware shortages.
In the widely shared video, the groom is presented with an MSI Suprim GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card, elegantly hung around his neck with red ribbons, following local gifting customs. The bride receives a quad-channel DDR5 memory kit in similar fashion. Moments later, another guest adds an Intel Core Ultra unlocked processor to the celebration, prompting laughter as subtitles describe the gifts as “a full computer set.”
The spectacle reflects a broader trend: in an era defined by AI-driven demand and semiconductor constraints, premium GPUs, DRAM and NAND chips have become highly prized assets. Recent market reports have even noted that certain memory components have, by weight, rivaled or surpassed gold in value due to AI data-center demand.
While gold and diamonds traditionally symbolize permanence, today’s tech hardware carries its own prestige—especially during a period of elevated PC component prices and limited supply. However, analysts caution that AI-fueled memory markets could eventually correct, potentially cooling prices.
For now, the Turkish couple’s celebration captures a defining moment of the times: in the age of AI and chip shortages, a top-tier GPU may be as coveted as gold.
