Huaiyuan Yang, Vice President - UCWeb Global Business.
UC Browser is the world's No.1 third-party mobile browser with 1.1 billion user downloads worldwide (excluding China) with half of its global installs from India. India therefore remains one of the most important markets for UC. With the new media content ecosystem taking off in a big way now, the market not just has a tremendous growth potential but also offers a vast user base to the company.
“In this environment, we have committed to a localization strategy - at the product level, on content, on language medium, and for recruitment,” says Huaiyuan Yang, Vice President - UCWeb Global Business. “We are working to add content across multiple categories on our platform and the UC news feed is now available in English, Hindi, Tamil, Marathi, Telugu, Gujarati, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi, Oriya, Urdu, Bhojpuri and Assamese, Manipuri. We have over 1, 20,000 content creators and over 700 media houses which have partnered with us for content.”
Since taking over the new role of the Vice President of UCWeb's global business, Huaiyuan Yang has been responsible for all overseas business of UC, including its important markets such as India and Indonesia. “I am closely involved with UC Browser’s global operations, product development and news feed for global markets. As part of the global UC team, we are always on the lookout to take on new challenges and make use of the opportunities that lie ahead of us in global markets,” he explains.
UC Browser is very optimistic about the future and will work to enhance the content and browsing ecosystem through optimization of technology, production tools, and ecological guidance. It will also focus on aiding new content creators through investment and resource empowerment to serve its wide user base of 130 million (MAUs) in India.
Digital content generation in India
Huaiyuan Yang however notes that the new media ecosystem in India is yet to boom completely. Supply of trending, quality content remains insufficient as more and more Indians get online to look for diverse yet localized content in their native languages.
“Given this scenario, the market prospect is extremely promising. Through innovative products and technologies, UC is committed to building a healthy content ecosystem. For content creators, we actively help them grow and realize their dreams. The Indian market has indeed tremendous growth potential. Our efforts to build a wholesome content ecosystem along with varied versions of UC Browser (UC Turbo and UC Mini) will help us ensure that we cater to the demands of the next hundred million users that are fast getting online,” he observes.
UC Browser has upgraded its products to meet the diverse demands of its users in India. UC Browser Turbo and UC Browser Mini were launched to that effect. While UC Browser Turbo is a more convenient search tool with a clean interface and Ad block feature for those who want a simple platform to navigate on, UC Browser Mini is designed for users who are looking to install small memory browser, so it features small storage and requires less space while still allowing users to enjoy the same functions as UC Browser, including trendy content.
It also launched the UC We-Media platform and began to partner with Indian publishers and content creators.
“As of today, we have partnered with more than 700 media groups in India to enrich the content supply and on-boarded over 120,000 We-Media content creators. We are proud that users are willing to get information from UC news feed,” says Huaiyuan Yang.
He continues further, “Given the vast market that India is, it does present multiple challenges and opportunities. Building up a content supply ecosystem has been extremely rewarding. We are happy to say that we have been successfully able to overcome challenges posed by a unique market like India.”
And so…
UC Browser has a strong reputation for fast downloading and mobile data saving. Its aim has been to bridge the digital divide by giving everyone the right to enjoy the information and create content. Going forward, UC is committed to introducing the highest quality content through various channels, structured analysis of the content and recommendations based on user habits.
“Digital content consumption is on the rise in India and we are able to customize, curate and present diverse content to users via our complete product portfolio. We will continue to provide an array of interesting, informative, valuable and diversified content. For self-generated content creators, we will be able to actively help them grow and be empowered to write their own success story,” he concludes.
