Meta-owned WhatsApp announced that it will be rolling out a new feature called Call Links, designed to enable users to start a new call or join an ongoing call. WhatsApp has stated that the new feature will likely be rolled out later this week.
However, users need to ensure that they have the latest version of the app to take advantage of the Call Links feature. The new development is seen as WhatsApp’s plans to expand its WhatsApp Communities feature, which is under development.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg said, “We’re rolling out call links on WhatsApp starting this week so you can share a link to start a call with a single tap. We’re also testing secure encrypted video calling for up to 32 people. More coming soon.”
The instant messaging application has also announced that it has commenced testing group video calls with up to 32 users. WhatsApp already allows users to add up to 32 users in its group voice calls and it is available for both iOS and Android platforms. Users can simply tap on the ‘Call Links’ option available within the Calls Tab and then create a link for an audio or video call and share it easily with family and friends.
