WhatsApp on the web could soon have a screen lock feature that ensures all the content is stored behind a password.
According to WaBetaInfo, WhatsApp will give users the option to enable the feature, after which WhatsApp web will authorise logging in via password every time the user wants to access it. WhatsApp will soon start testing the security lock with its beta users.
The report also mentions that WhatsApp will not lock the user out of the account if they forget the screen lock password. Instead, they will be asked to log out of the desktop version and link the device using the QR code on the web platform. Each time a user opens WhatsApp desktop, they need to enter a password to access the same. The report also claims that the password securing the WhatsApp desktop will be locally stored on the device.
WhatsApp on the web can also be unlocked using the fingerprint sensor, which might not be possible for iPhone and Mac users. WhatsApp has already enabled biometric security for its Linked Devices feature, through which users can access WhatsApp accounts on the web.
Users can enable the screen lock feature on the WhatsApp desktop from the setting menu. Do note that, this is an optional feature and one needs to activate it manually to secure WhatsApp desktop. The feature will be available for both Windows and Mac users.
