It is common for people to focus too much on the next big thing that they could not see past the big picture. The problem lies in the lack of observation, not lack of imagination.
The power is in your sight and you don’t have to struggle hard to notice what is already in front of you. For instance, the popularity surrounding the Internet of Things (IoT).
What exactly is so powerful about IoT? The Internet of Things relies heavily on and around machine-to-machine communication; its basis is the solid cloud computing and networks of data-gathering sensors; the power lies in its mobile, virtual, and instantaneous connection. Industry veterans have claimed that IoT will make everything in our lives smart and instant.
When people do not vision big enough or spread their horizons, they lose sight of the tiny things that could make a major difference. We all have been yapping about machine-to-machine communication (M2M): the specific devices meant to talk like devices. We often forget that machine is just an instrument and is acting like a tool to physically initiate something. When the reliance is on making machines smart, it means sensors rather M2M.
A sensor cannot be just tagged as a machine. It is not remotely similar to one, the work of sensors include - gathering information, storing data and reevaluating everything it grasps. The Internet of Things gets activated with the subliming of sensors and machines, and it thrives on the tangent of data gathering and capitalizing on it. All the information in the world would deem useless if there isn’t any infrastructure in place to study it in reality.
The Internet of Things is one mystery bag: Connected devices, smart city, home enabled automation, Internet focused health, Big Data. You name it, they have it. The communication concept has become a big giant, although it all narrow downs to one single factor – IoT.
Cars could easily be driven on the road without a driver, TV streaming is now on Internet, and heating systems provides you the warmth instantly at your arrival at the residence. One word; Internet, which has made our life a smooth sailing. IoT could be seen anywhere and has taken over our lives drastically, we cannot think to do our daily chore sans Internet of Things.
You cannot imagine using your phone without Internet access, they would become useless devices. Same goes for TV and audio products, new electronic products would not be produced in the market in future without internet access. The biggest example is of wearables- these are web enabled devices that are placed on your body to monitor your health and everyone in the healthcare industry is going gaga over them.
Now manufacturers not only have the liberty to produce Internet-enabled home appliances, but also have dug deep in the functioning of apps and software portals.
Smartphones presence has an upper hand in the cars over anything else now. The smartphone world has enabled the cars, drivers and the car manufacturers to communicate in the real world efficiently and avoid getting lost and with lesser probability of collision with other vehicles.
Autonomous cars are the most sought after concept now with the self-driving option available, us waiting with bated breath now to minimize effort and better our lives.
