China's Xiaomi has told the commission in an application that the investigation report on Flipkart contains sensitive business data on the smartphone company which was supposed to be redacted when the document was shared with parties in the case.
According to sources familiar with the matter. The tech giant has raised concerns that the CCI's report contains sensitive commercial secrets that should not be disclosed, seeking the retraction or review of the document.
One of Xiaomi's concerns with the Flipkart report is that it contains its model-wise sales which is sensitive information, one of the sources said. Any recall of the Competition Commission of India (CCI) report could delay its antitrust investigation, which began in 2021.
The CCI report found that Xiaomi, along with Flipkart, had allegedly engaged in anti-competitive practices, particularly concerning the sale of smartphones, potentially manipulating prices or market conditions. This investigation followed claims that both companies had breached India's competition regulations.
Xiaomi's appeal indicates its efforts to protect confidential business information and possibly contest the findings, which could have significant implications for its business operations in India. The move reflects the growing tensions between global tech companies and regulatory bodies in various markets, particularly as India tightens scrutiny on companies to ensure compliance with local competition laws.
