Apple is adding a Google Street View-like feature called “Look Around” to Apple Maps’ web version. The update was already available on iPhones since iOS 13 and gives users a 360-degree immersive view.
Apple Maps has expanded its popular "Look Around" feature to the web, providing users with an immersive street-level view directly through their browsers. Originally exclusive to Apple devices, this tool brings a new dimension of navigation and exploration, allowing users to experience destinations virtually with 360-degree imagery.
The "Look Around" feature is similar to Google Street View but is noted for its fluid transitions and high-definition visuals, offering a seamless experience when navigating through streets. Users can click on a location in Apple Maps and, if available, access the "Look Around" option to virtually explore the area with remarkable clarity. The feature is particularly useful for travelers, real estate enthusiasts, or anyone curious about a location’s surroundings.
This expansion to web browsers broadens accessibility beyond Apple’s ecosystem, enabling users on other platforms to benefit from the feature. It demonstrates Apple’s efforts to make its services more inclusive and competitive in the digital mapping space.
The rollout aligns with Apple's ongoing enhancements to Apple Maps, which have included improved navigation features, detailed 3D maps, and better public transit integration. The "Look Around" feature on the web is expected to enhance user convenience and further establish Apple Maps as a comprehensive tool for location-based services.
‘Look Around’ will be rolled out to several countries globally including the U.S., Canada, Australia, the UK and portions of the European Union. Users will be able to avail the feature when using Safari, Google Chrome, Edge and Firefox.
