Corning Incorporated has officially inaugurated Maharashtra’s first 3D-printed school in Ambethan, near its optical fiber manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune. Named The Skill Will Center, the project demonstrates how advanced 3D printing technology can deliver faster, cost-efficient, and sustainable educational infrastructure.
The innovative school was completed in just 67 days using large-scale 3D printers with concrete and earth-based materials. This process significantly reduces construction time, costs, and waste, making it an eco-friendly alternative to conventional building methods.
The Skill Will Center will empower young learners by fostering critical life skills such as problem-solving, creative thinking, and effective communication. “This facility will build a scientific mindset in students and guide them toward a brighter educational journey,” said Rohidas Yelwande of Ambethan ZP School.

John McGirr, Senior VP & General Manager of Corning Optical Fiber and Cable, emphasized, “At Corning, we believe innovation and collaboration can create meaningful change. Our projects in Pune reflect our commitment to community empowerment, education, and sustainability.”
This 3D-printed school builds on Corning’s long-standing collaboration with local communities. In Varale Gram Panchayat, Corning previously supported classroom expansions, built a community hall, and added new floors to accommodate growing student numbers. These efforts underline Corning’s mission to make quality education accessible and inclusive.
Sudhir Pillai, Managing Director, Corning India, added, “From Varale to Ambethan, our partnerships with local Panchayats reflect Corning’s dedication to delivering sustainable, impactful solutions. The 3D-printed school represents our vision of creating lasting value through education and innovation.”
Since establishing its Pune facility in 2012, Corning has driven several CSR initiatives including clean drinking water projects, garden refurbishment, e-learning programs, and school development. Together, these projects showcase Corning’s holistic approach to building a stronger, sustainable future for communities.
