The Goa government is set to launch a new optical fibre cable network across the state to enhance internet connectivity and ensure digital access for every household, Information Technology Minister Rohan Khaunte announced.
Responding to a query from independent MLA Dr. Chandrakant Shetye during the ongoing monsoon session of the assembly, Khaunte stated that the proposed network will serve as the backbone of the state’s ‘Har Ghar Fibre’ initiative.
Aligned with the Centre’s Digital India programme, the project aims to bridge the digital divide, particularly in underserved and remote areas. It will be implemented under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, making use of existing infrastructure and prioritizing regions with poor connectivity. A structured tendering and execution plan will define the project’s rollout timeline.
“The government is committed to ensuring affordable, high-speed internet connectivity for every household in Goa,” Khaunte said. “This initiative will enable seamless access to digital services across sectors such as education, healthcare, e-governance, commerce, and communication.”
The ambitious optical fibre network is expected to transform Goa’s digital infrastructure and pave the way for inclusive digital growth in the state.
