Through high-intensity simulations, real-world attack scenarios, and gamified drills, the program aims to test systems, expose vulnerabilities, and improve inter-agency coordination.
India has launched a high-stakes cybersecurity initiative, ‘Cyber Suraksha’, a multi-phase national cyber drill designed to test and strengthen the country’s digital defenses. Led by the Defence Cyber Agency under the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff, the initiative runs from June 16 to June 27, 2025, and marks one of the most significant efforts in government cybersecurity in India to date.
The Cyber Suraksha initiative brings together over 100 participants from critical defense institutions, national security agencies, and law enforcement bodies. Through immersive real-world simulations, high-intensity cyberattack scenarios, and gamified response exercises, the program aims to identify system vulnerabilities, evaluate response protocols, and boost inter-agency coordination in the face of rapidly escalating cyber threats.

This cyber security exercise isn't a one-off event. It's part of India’s evolving strategy to build robust national cyber defense capabilities in light of increasing incidents of ransomware, data breaches, and cyber espionage. The simulations are tailored to mimic sophisticated threats such as zero-day exploits, AI-generated phishing campaigns, and coordinated attacks on critical infrastructure like power grids, defense networks, and financial institutions.
Officials noted that the drill will also provide valuable feedback on the preparedness of various government departments, improve incident response timelines, and lay the groundwork for future cybersecurity policies and frameworks. It serves as a practical stress test for India’s cyber ecosystem, aligning with the broader push for digital sovereignty and data security.
The Cyber Suraksha national cyber drill reflects India’s commitment to staying ahead of adversaries in the cyber domain, while promoting cross-agency collaboration and fostering a culture of cyber vigilance. As cyber warfare becomes a frontline concern, such exercises are key to protecting the country’s digital infrastructure and ensuring long-term national security.
