Asoke K. Laha, President & CEO of Interra Information Technologies, has just took over as National President of the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce. The AGM of the Chamber took place on September 29 in Mumbai.
Asoke Laha said, “We will soon create teams or units of entrepreneurs and professionals who would jointly address the issues suggested by the Indian Prime Minister and put together a concrete action plan on this. We will be leveraging the best of our internal talents and would possibly help coordinate with educational and skill development organizations both in the US and India, to add value, training and empowerment to Indian youth and students. We are also examining the core functional areas of the India government’s Skill Development Mission and how best to plug in there.”
As to the sensitive issue of outsourcing to India by the US companies, Asoke Laha said, “Why should the US be shy of outsourcing where that makes preeminent economic sense both for her as well as for India. Courageous leaders and courageous nations never advocate protectionism. They stand on their own feet and face healthy open competition. India has already established its intellectual prowess in IT. She is no longer looked at merely as a large alluring market nor just a source of cheap labour but provider of value-added services. IACC would actively work on this field and add value to this.”
Asoke K. Laha is the Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of Interra Information Technologies, a global software services organization that delivers innovative business and technology solutions to Fortune 1000 companies. Headquartered in San Jose, California, USA, InterraIT’s operations are spread across five countries, with a sales network spanning the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, India and Japan.
He has over thirty years of professional experience in the software industry. Laha is a US citizen, and had started his career as software developer in the United States and later moved to general management. He worked for multinational US corporations like GTE, Digital Equipment Corporation and Cadence, all in the US.
He had received his Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electrical and Communications from Jadavpur University, India, and Masters of Engineering in Electrical and Computer Science from University of Saskatchewan, Canada. He also completed his Graduate studies from Northwestern University, USA. He has published a number of articles on IEEE Transactions and IEE Proceedings.
