The cyber resilience firm has unveiled what it calls the industry's first AI security and governance platform built specifically for resource-constrained organizations, aiming to help businesses adopt AI safely while protecting sensitive data and demonstrating compliance.
Barracuda Networks, Inc. has launched Barracuda AI Data Security, a solution the company describes as the industry's first AI security and governance offering purpose-built for resource-constrained organizations and managed service providers (MSPs). The platform is designed to help businesses accelerate AI adoption with confidence by safeguarding sensitive data, enforcing responsible AI use, and generating compliance evidence.
Built on the BarracudaONE platform, the solution marks a significant addition to Barracuda's AI Security portfolio, bringing together AI visibility, data protection, threat defense, and governance into one integrated experience.
The launch responds to a widening security gap: new research from Barracuda found that nearly half of senior IT leaders admit their teams lack the skills needed to securely govern AI already in use across their organizations. The risks are already materializing—IBM's Cost of a Data Breach Report 2026 found that 68% of organizations that suffered a breach had no policies in place to manage AI or detect shadow AI usage.

How the solution works
Barracuda AI Data Security combines security, governance and compliance into a single system, offering full visibility into AI usage, safe enablement of approved tools, real-time inspection of prompts and uploads, and audit-ready evidence of policy enforcement. Powered by the Barracuda IQ AI engine, it extends protection across more than 1,300 generative AI tools, including Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini.
Its core capabilities include automatic blocking of sensitive data—such as customer records, passwords, financial information and proprietary code—from reaching GenAI services without requiring initial setup; detection of prompt injection, jailbreak attempts and policy-violating content aligned with the OWASP LLM Top 10; a compliance-ready audit trail with one-click exports for insurers and auditors; and flexible policy controls tailored to specific teams, tools and data types.
Built for smaller businesses and service providers
Unlike most AI governance tools designed with large enterprises in mind, Barracuda AI Data Security targets smaller businesses and MSPs that often face excessive complexity, specialized skill requirements, and high costs with existing offerings. The company says the solution can be deployed within minutes, using familiar firewall-style workflows and guided configuration through Barracuda's Bailey AI assistant, removing the need for specialized AI security expertise. MSPs also gain centralized multitenant management and bundled pricing designed to fit their service models.
Barracuda AI Data Security is scheduled for release in October 2026 and will be included at no additional cost within Barracuda SecureEdge Premium Access.
