Shopping online for holiday gifts can be stressful, especially when monitoring deliveries to avoid surprises or missed packages. 
 
Gmail’s latest feature aims to reduce this hassle by simplifying package tracking. Instead of manually copying and pasting tracking numbers into a carrier's website, users can now see delivery details directly in their inbox. 
 
But with convenience comes potential security risks, and it’s important to understand both sides.

  
For years, Gmail has used summary cards to pull key details from emails and display them at the top of messages. 
 
These cards make it easy to access hotel booking details or credit card payment reminders. Now, Gmail is extending this feature to include package tracking. 
 
Purchase summaries will show estimated delivery dates, and a green status update will appear under shipping confirmation email subjects.
To use the feature, Gmail users must opt-in by clicking "Allow" on the summary card of a relevant email or enabling Package Tracking under Gmail settings (in the main settings menu for Android or under “Data Privacy” for iOS). 
 
Once enabled, Google automatically shares tracking numbers with shipping carriers to display status updates within the Gmail app. Users can deactivate this feature anytime if desired.
