The ePlane Company, a leading Indian electric aviation OEM, has announced the development of a high-fidelity digital twin of its e200x electric air taxi using NVIDIA Omniverse libraries—marking a first for the subcontinent’s electric aviation sector.
By leveraging physics-accurate digital simulation, ePlane is recreating the aircraft’s real-world performance in a virtual environment. The digital twin enables engineers to simulate complex aerodynamics, sensor interactions, autonomy algorithms, and mission-critical edge cases—such as extreme weather or system failures—long before physical flight. This significantly reduces testing risks, accelerates validation cycles, and enhances safety.
The e200x will also integrate NVIDIA’s IGX platform as its onboard edge computing system, supporting advanced sensor fusion, decision-making, and visualization capabilities. Designed for urban air mobility, the aircraft must process data from multiple sensors—including cameras and radars—in real time, requiring high-performance, safety-certified computing infrastructure.
According to Prof. Satya Chakravarthy, Founder and CTO of The ePlane Company, the collaboration allows the team to rigorously validate flight operations through simulation. The digital twin enables the aircraft to “fly” millions of virtual kilometers, training autonomy systems under diverse operational scenarios before real-world deployment.
The initiative also strengthens India’s aerospace innovation ecosystem. High-performance computing resources, powered by advanced GPUs, allow real-time rendering of multi-physics simulations. Beyond design validation, the digital twin can serve as a predictive analytics engine, anticipating maintenance requirements and enhancing lifecycle reliability.
As ePlane moves toward certification, the integration of digital twins with mission-critical onboard computing represents a new model for certifiable aviation-grade AI systems in India. NVIDIA executives highlighted that the partnership reflects the rapid growth of India’s AI and deep-tech startup ecosystem.
With this collaboration, The ePlane Company positions itself at the forefront of electric urban aviation—combining indigenous engineering with advanced AI-driven simulation to redefine safety and innovation.
