To decrease its future dependencies on popular rivals operating systems (OS) offered by Apple and Google, Facebook is coming up with its own OS. It will focus on future products, such as augmented-reality glasses. Facebook has shared plans to build this type of glasses, software built in.
The Head of Hardware, Facebook, Andrew Bosworth said that the company wants to make sure that the next generation has space for Facebook. He also said that, the company do not think that it can trust the marketplace or competitors so it is building its own OS.
Facebook has found out its way to lessen its dependence on Apple and Google for years. Earlier it tried to build its own mobile phone and developed a software layer to work on HTC handsets, but both the projects failed. Facebook also previously had a contingency plan in place, called Project Oxygen, in case its apps were ever blocked or inaccessible from the Google Play Store and Facebook had to ensure users could get them somewhere else.
