Leveraging its AI model Gemini, Google claims a 300% improvement in threat detection.
In response to the alarming rise in cybercrime across India, Google has unveiled a powerful new initiative — the Google Safety Charter — aimed at enhancing cybersecurity and fraud prevention through artificial intelligence. This move marks a significant step in Google’s AI cybersecurity strategy, particularly within the Indian digital landscape where online scams, especially UPI frauds and impersonation attacks, have seen a steep surge.
Launched in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), the Google AI initiative in India focuses on safeguarding both users and enterprises through advanced AI tools. At the heart of the initiative is Google’s Gemini AI model, which the company claims has improved threat detection capabilities by 300%, offering real-time identification and response to emerging cyber risks.

At the heart of the initiative is Google’s Gemini AI model, which the company claims has improved threat detection capabilities by 300%, offering real-time identification and response to emerging cyber risks.

The Google digital safety India campaign outlined under the charter has three main pillars:
- Protecting Users: Enhancing awareness through public advisories and pushing real-time scam alerts during sensitive transactions or suspicious app activity.
- Securing Enterprises: Assisting businesses with AI-powered tools to detect vulnerabilities, secure digital operations, and prevent phishing attempts.
- Promoting Responsible AI: Ensuring ethical use of AI in cybersecurity, focusing on transparency, fairness, and bias mitigation in algorithmic decisions.
Google has already integrated AI-powered protections in services like Chrome, Gmail, and the Play Store to block malware and scammy apps. Under this charter, the company will further expand partnerships with fintech platforms, law enforcement, and regulatory bodies to increase information-sharing and enhance user protection mechanisms.
The initiative reflects Google’s commitment to cybercrime prevention in India as the country’s digital economy grows rapidly. With more Indians transacting online, particularly through mobile devices, the Safety Charter sets a precedent for proactive digital security — aligning innovation with user trust and digital resilience.
