Google is said to be developing a new feature for its Gemini AI chatbot, designed to give users more control over the content it generates. Known as “Content Filters,” the feature was discovered in a recent beta version of the Google app for Android. While the feature is not yet active, it signals Google’s intent to provide enhanced content moderation tools for Gemini, allowing users to better manage the type of responses they receive.
The feature was found in the Google app’s beta version 15.51.24.sa.arm64, with a screenshot showing it placed within the Gemini Settings section. Positioned between options like “Screen Context” and “Manage Your Advanced Subscription,” the “Content Filters” option comes with a brief description, stating, “Use filters to control the responses you see.” However, since it is not enabled at the moment, the full functionality of the feature remains unclear.
According to the publication that reported the discovery, Android Authority, tapping on the Content Filters option leads to a URL associated with the Gemini website, but the page is currently inactive. This has left users and analysts speculating about the feature’s potential.
It’s likely that Content Filters will allow users to filter out undesirable or inappropriate responses from Gemini, similar to how parental controls work on devices or websites. This could include blocking certain topics or banning specific websites from appearing in the AI’s responses. The tool may even allow users to tailor the tone, style, or formality of Gemini’s replies, though this remains a possibility and not yet confirmed.
Given that the feature is still in development, nothing can be conclusively stated until Google officially unveils it. However, it suggests the company is focused on improving user experience and offering more control over the AI’s interactions.
