Breaking News
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has called for a complete shift towards paperless administration, urging government departments to adopt transparency, timeliness, and reliability in delivering public services. The announcement came during an event at Sahyadri Guest House marking the state’s ‘150 Days of E-Governance Reforms’ initiative.
Emphasising the need to simplify citizen access to services, the Chief Minister introduced the vision of “One State, One Portal” — a unified digital platform aimed at integrating multiple government websites into a single interface. The move is expected to reduce confusion among citizens and streamline service delivery across departments.
Maha ID to Enable Unified Access
Alongside the portal, Fadnavis announced the rollout of a unique “Maha ID” system, which will allow residents to access various government schemes through a single identification mechanism. The initiative is designed to minimise duplication, curb misuse, and ensure targeted delivery of benefits.
He also directed departments to move beyond “low paper” operations and adopt a fully digital, “no paper” administrative framework within a defined timeline. According to officials, this transition is expected to improve efficiency, reduce delays, and enhance accountability across the system.
Data-Driven Governance and AI Integration
As part of the digital push, the Chief Minister launched the ‘Mahasarathi’ portal, envisioned as a centralised data platform to support data-driven governance and informed decision-making. Highlighting innovation within departments, he pointed to the agriculture department’s AI-powered ‘Maha-Vistar’ application as a model initiative. The app provides farmers with critical information, including weather updates and advisory services, even in tribal languages.
Reviewing the progress of the reform programme, Fadnavis noted that 42 departments were evaluated during the 150-day period. He added that around 40,000 promotions were granted to government employees, contributing to improved administrative performance. Maharashtra, he said, currently ranks first in the country on the iGOT training platform, reflecting its focus on capacity building.
Several departments, districts, and officials were also recognised for their performance during the reform drive, underscoring the state’s broader push towards efficient and technology-driven governance.
