Meta is rolling out paid “Plus” subscriptions across Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp, introducing premium features, personalisation tools and AI-driven plans, as the company shifts towards a subscription-based model alongside its advertising business.
Meta is reshaping its social media ecosystem by introducing paid subscription plans across Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp, marking a strategic shift beyond its traditional ad-driven revenue model. The new “Plus” versions of its apps are being rolled out globally, including in India, offering users premium features, enhanced customisation and improved visibility tools for a monthly fee.
The move reflects Meta’s broader effort to diversify income streams by encouraging users to pay for advanced experiences rather than relying solely on advertising revenue. While Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus are priced at $3.99 per month, WhatsApp Plus is available at $2.99 per month. The company has, however, not yet announced specific pricing for the Indian market.
Premium features enhance user experience
According to industry reports, Instagram Plus users will gain access to deeper engagement insights such as the number of times Stories are rewatched. Subscribers will also be able to create unlimited Story audience lists beyond the existing Close Friends feature and preview Stories without appearing in viewer lists.

Additional features include extending Stories beyond the standard 24-hour limit, spotlighting selected Stories for weekly visibility boosts, and gaining better control over audience engagement data. Users will also be able to search through Story viewers and post content to profiles and highlights without it appearing directly in followers’ feeds.
Meta is also introducing cosmetic upgrades for personalization. These include animated reactions like “Super Hearts,” custom app icons, unique fonts for bios, and additional profile pinning options, aimed at enhancing user expression and engagement.
Messaging upgrades and ecosystem-wide expansion
WhatsApp Plus will focus on personalisation in messaging, offering features such as custom chat themes, premium stickers, unique ringtones, additional pinned conversations and advanced list management tools. Facebook Plus is expected to offer a similar set of enhancements, aligning across Meta’s platform ecosystem.
In addition to app-based subscriptions, Meta is expanding into AI, creator and business services under its broader “Meta One” subscription framework. The AI plans are structured into two tiers: Meta One Plus at $7.99 per month for heavy AI users, and Meta One Premium at $19.99 per month, offering higher usage limits for tasks such as image generation, video creation and advanced reasoning.
Meta AI will remain available for free users, but heavy usage will eventually require subscription upgrades. The company is initially launching AI subscription services in select markets including Singapore, Guatemala and Bolivia, with wider expansion expected later.
Creator and business-focused monetisation
Meta is also targeting content creators and businesses with new subscription tiers. The Meta One Essential plan is priced at $14.99 per month, while the Meta One Advanced plan costs $49.99 per month. These plans offer benefits such as verification tools, enhanced profile links, improved analytics, content promotion features and priority visibility in feeds and search results.
The Advanced tier also includes multi-account management tools, scheduling features and access to human customer support for Instagram and Facebook pages, addressing long-standing concerns of small businesses.
With these changes, Meta is positioning itself as a subscription-driven digital ecosystem, aiming to support its growing AI investments while offering users and businesses more control, visibility and monetisation opportunities across its platforms.
