In a meeting in San Francisco with top executives of semiconductor firms, Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman has called on American semiconductor firms AMD, Western Digital and Micron Tech to boost investments in India.
Speaking at a roundtable hosted in the Silicon Valley by the CII and the US Chamber of Commerce’s US-India Business Council (USIBC), the minister especially referred to financial technology (fintech) as a major opportunity for sustainable and inclusive growth.
In a separate roundtable with US semiconductor players, she asked them to make further investments in India. Sitharaman accentuated the opportunities for American companies in India and highlighted the government’s commitment to be a reliable player in the entire semiconductor value chain.
Sitharaman also held a series of meetings with other investors in the US and encouraged them to be part of the India story. She also met Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, who gave a snapshot of the company's investment in India and expansion plan.
Dan Steere, Senior Vice President, Corporate Business Development at Western Digital, said the company is excited to explore opportunities with the government of India to expand manufacturing in the Indian market. Similarly, Devinder Kumar, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of AMD spoke about the company's growth in India and how India is poised to grow strongly with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat driving it.
