Microsoft-backed artificial intelligence startup OpenAI has announced an exciting new feature as part of its “12 Days of OpenAI” initiative. The company has integrated its popular AI chatbot, ChatGPT, directly into Meta’s widely-used instant messaging platform, WhatsApp. This new development allows users to interact with ChatGPT on WhatsApp without the need for a separate app or account, making it more accessible and user-friendly.
This integration has been rolled out globally, enabling users around the world to chat with ChatGPT directly through WhatsApp. In addition to this, OpenAI has introduced a phone feature in the United States, where users can dial 1-800-CHATGPT (1-800-242-8478) to have a voice conversation with the chatbot. This phone call feature leverages OpenAI’s Advanced Voice Mode, designed to facilitate natural language conversations, offering users an alternative way to interact with the AI. It also ensures that even users in areas without reliable internet access can engage with ChatGPT, making the service more inclusive.
To start a conversation on WhatsApp, users can simply send a message to the dedicated number, 1-800-242-8478, or scan a QR code available on OpenAI’s support page. The service is designed to be easy to use and doesn’t require users to log into an OpenAI account, although OpenAI is working on adding an account login option in the future. The account login would enable more personalized responses from ChatGPT, further enhancing the user experience.
For now, the service is limited to text-based communication only, and users will not be able to make voice calls to ChatGPT. OpenAI has also implemented a daily usage limit for the chatbot on WhatsApp, although the exact limit has not been disclosed. The company mentioned that these limits could vary depending on system capacity and users will be notified when they are close to reaching the daily limit.
With this innovative integration, OpenAI is making its AI technology more accessible and versatile, providing users with multiple ways to interact with ChatGPT and bringing artificial intelligence to even more corners of the world.
