Radix, the domain registry founded by serial entrepreneurs Bhavin and Divyank Turakhia has appointed Sandeep Ramchandani as its new global CEO. Radix was launched in 2012 with an eventual investment of INR 160 cr. Its annual revenue for the calendar year 2017 was over INR 80 cr and is expected to cross INR 100 cr in 2018. Radix had bid to operate 31 top level domain extensions and won the rights to 9 of those, including .ONLINE, .SITE, .TECH, .STORE, .PRESS and .FUN. Bhavin will continue as Radix’s Executive Chairman.
Bhavin Turakhia said, “We are pleased to elevate Sandeep to the position of CEO at Radix. Having worked with us since 2003 across various businesses, Sandeep has been an integral part of our journey. Through the years, Sandeep has consistently built talented teams, delivered business results, and demonstrated exceptional leadership. He has also evolved into a well-respected thought leader within the industry. We remain extremely bullish about the future opportunities in the domains space, and are confident that Sandeep will scale the business rapidly.”
Sandeep Ramchandani, 35, has been with Radix since its inception as the VP and Business Head. Prior to Radix, he was with LogicBoxes, an enterprise consulting business, which was one of the businesses acquired by Endurance International Group in 2014.
Sandeep Ramchandani, CEO, Radix, said, “Currently, there are 460 million internet users in India, second only to China. By 2021, this number is expected to be 635.8 million. India is the 3rd largest startup ecosystem in the world and has 42.50 million SMEs but the domain penetration rate in India is 1.1%, compared to 3.6% in China and 43.6% in the US. This gap will soon begin to close and the demand for websites, professional email addresses, and consequently, domains names, will grow at an even faster pace. Through major retailers like GoDaddy and BigRock, Radix is well positioned to serve this need.”
Radix has over 30 lakh domain names sold to users around the world. As per a report by Zinnov, the domain name industry in India has grown by a CAGR of 11.9% during the period June 2013 - June 2016, as compared to 8.7% globally.
Radix offers new and creative alternatives to .com and .in. With new domain extensions, businesses have the option to register keyword-rich, meaningful names with an industry relevant domain extension. For instance, an online store can get a website ending in .STORE and a tech start-up can have it on .TECH. Similarly, .FUN is a great extension for India’s steadily growing entertainment and media industry and .PRESS for news websites and journalists.
