According to a screenshot shared by WhatsApp tracker WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is apparently working on a new feature that will allow users to hide their online status. At the moment, WhatsApp lets users decide who can see their Last Seen status.
The app will give two options: Everyone or Same as Last Seen. One can effectively enter stealth mode once this update rolls out. If a user sets Last Seen status in the Privacy section of the Settings menu to Nobody and online status to Same as Last Seen, heshe will effectively be invisible while using WhatsApp.
WhatsApp will let users choose between two settings for ‘Online’ indicator. They will be able to either set it to ‘Everyone’ which will let everyone see when they’re online (unless blocked) and then there is the ‘Same as Last Seen’ option that will show ‘Online’ indicator to only those who have permission to see Last Seen indicator.
The report adds that while the screenshot is taken on iOS, the feature will eventually come to Android and Desktop users as well. The feature is in development and the implementation will first come to beta users, and stable users should get the update after any bugs are ironed out.
The instant messaging app is working on other features, including the ability to switch to avatar on video calls and introducing a blur tool to the media editor. It has introduced new time limits to deleting messages on the platform: 2 days and 12 hours and has released a new version of message reactions, letting users react with any emojis.
