Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has reached a major milestone in its 4G expansion, having successfully installed nearly 84,000 of its targeted 1 lakh 4G towers across India. This significant deployment represents 83.99% completion of BSNL’s ongoing network modernization project, which is aimed at enhancing connectivity for over 9 crore users, particularly in rural and underserved regions.
These newly deployed BSNL 4G towers are not only improving the current mobile experience but are also future-ready, designed to support the upcoming BSNL 5G rollout. The state-run telecom operator is preparing for a BSNL 5G launch in India by June 2025, marking a transformative leap in its service capabilities. The towers will enable a smooth transition from 4G to 5G, ensuring enhanced data speeds, lower latency, and better overall service quality.

The BSNL 4G expansion is being powered by indigenous technology under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, with strong backing from the Government of India. This strategic move is part of BSNL’s broader mission to strengthen the India network infrastructure, reduce reliance on foreign vendors, and rival private telecom giants like Jio and Airtel.

Alongside infrastructure upgrades, BSNL is enhancing its mobile services portfolio. As part of its Mother’s Day celebration, BSNL is offering extended validity and exclusive discounts on select prepaid plans from May 7 to May 14, giving users added value and incentives to stay connected.
With the majority of tower installations complete, BSNL is now focusing on testing and optimizing 5G services, setting the stage for a nationwide 5G rollout by mid-2025. This development signals a renewed competitive push by the state-owned telecom player, promising faster, more reliable, and locally built mobile networks across India.
The update was shared by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) via an official post on X (formerly known as Twitter), along with an 8-second progress video demonstrating the rapid network build-out. As India advances toward full digital connectivity, BSNL’s 5G ambitions, backed by solid groundwork and strategic foresight, will play a vital role in shaping the country’s telecom future.
